7-4-8
Despite the fact that this song is total satire, we've embraced it as a demonstration of our kick-assery and patriotism. Naturally, it's been 232 years and two days since John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, Ben Franklin and those other two dudes that no one remembers gave the finger to King George III. Then they got everyone else in Congress to make it official and they all gave a sarcastic salute to sever our British bonds and now here we are, in the year of our lord two thousand and eight, wondering if our forefathers would even recognize the country they began building for us two hundred years ago. Probably not. They probably really wouldn't like what they saw either, but who cares. For 364 days of the year you can bash Bush, talk shit about the war in Iraq, and make your stupid plans of moving to Canada for free health care. But today, it's all about the red, white, and blue and lighting things on fire in the name of American Independence.
